Mercedes SL43R Lemon Law Case Study
Five Repair Visits for Recurring Engine Misfires on a Nearly New Mercedes SL43R
Our client purchased a new Mercedes SL43R from Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay, LLC in Florida. Within months of purchase, the vehicle developed a recurring engine misfire condition — diagnostic code P030001 (combustion misfire detected) — that persisted across five separate repair visits despite replacement of spark plugs, ignition coils, and all fuel injectors. The check engine light returned even after the most recent repair.
Documented Repair Visits
May 19 – June 4, 2025 (16 days)
Check engine light was on. Code P030001 (combustion misfire) was found. A test drive confirmed misfires on cylinders #3 and #4. Spark plugs and ignition coils were inspected, tested, and swapped. After another drive, the misfire returned only on cylinder #4. Further charge air system inspection was performed.
May 29 – June 4, 2025 (overlap/continuation)
Check engine light returned. Technicians performed diagnostics, checked power supply and engine. Fuel pressure and internal sealing were checked, spark plugs were replaced, and compression pressure was measured. Cylinders were inspected for leaks.
August 14–19, 2025 (5 days)
Check engine light returned. Technicians replaced all spark plugs and all fuel injectors. Fuel pressure and internal sealing were re-checked.
September 29 – October 7, 2025 (8 days)
Fault codes showed engine misfires again. Cylinder #4 had a misfire and a fouled spark plug. No leaks found after guided test and smoke check. Spark plug in cylinder #4 was replaced. A 12-volt battery concern with slow crank was also diagnosed.
October 28, 2025 – Present (ongoing)
The check engine light returned when the vehicle accelerates. Repair ongoing at time of case filing.
