Volkswagen ID. Buzz Lemon Law Case Study
104+ Days in the Shop for Cascading Electrical Failures on a New Volkswagen ID. Buzz
Our client leased a new Volkswagen ID. Buzz from Volkswagen Princeton in New Jersey. Within months of delivery, the vehicle experienced cascading electrical failures — the charging port would not open, the vehicle would not start, and all warning lights appeared — requiring the vehicle to be towed to the dealer. Over three repair visits spanning more than 111 cumulative days in the shop, core electrical issues continued to resurface.
Documented Repair Visits
July 2 – October 14, 2025 (104 days)
The vehicle was towed in because the charging port would not open, all warning lights appeared after charging, and the vehicle would not start. Technicians determined the JX1 with J841 charging module had an internal malfunction and replaced it. After replacement, neither key was being read — technicians followed TAC guidance to successfully reprogram the key.
October 14–21, 2025 (7 days)
Warning lights returned for drive system error, travel assist, and cruise control. Technicians found a fault for function limitation due to wheel speed deviation. TAC advised checking for broken or loose connectors — none were found. Faults were cleared.
October 24, 2025 – Present (ongoing)
A loaner agreement dated October 24, 2025 confirms the vehicle's return for additional repairs. The same warning light issues recurred and the vehicle remained at the dealership for ongoing repairs.
Why This Volkswagen ID. Buzz Qualified as a Lemon
New Jersey's Lemon Law (N.J.S.A. 56:12-29 et seq.) sets specific thresholds that entitle a consumer to a buyback or replacement. This case satisfied multiple criteria:
- Electrical: Required multiple repair attempts without permanent resolution.
